The IOT gateway software Festo AX Data Access retrieves data from Festo components and makes it available via MQTT. It is the simple way to set up data-driven solutions with data from Festo components, e.g. for energy or condition monitoring.
Festo AX Data Access enables access to data from Festo components in brown field or green field scenarios in order to gain transparency about the installed base, establish process monitoring in the brown field and enable easily integrated data-driven solutions that reduce downtimes and energy consumption.
Data is retrieved from the Festo components and made available to other applications and IT systems via MQTT.
Festo AX Data Access is a protocol translator from OT to IT (Festo-proprietary protocols to MQTT) for a range of widely used Festo components:
- Valve Terminal/Remote I/O: CPX/MPA
- Valve Terminal/Remote I/O: CPX/VTSA
- Servo Drives: CMMT-AS, CMMT-ST
- Energy Efficiency Module: MSE6-E2M, MSE6-C2M
- Remote I/O System: CPX-AP-I
Benefits
- Access to process, asset and smart data from devices in brownfield and greenfield
- Ensures transparency of the installed base of Festo components with regard to firmware version, IP address and much more
- Easy access to sensor data in the field without adapting the PLC
- Good basis for retro-fit of data-driven solutions on existing machines
Licenses
Festo AX Data Access can be purchased in three different expansion stages. The license is a perpetual license.
- Festo AX Data Access to connect up to 10 Festo components (8199718, GASA-DA-CTR-10)
- Festo AX Data Access to connect up to 100 Festo components (8199719, GASA-DA-CTR-100)
- Festo AX Data Access to connect up to 1000 Festo components (8199720, GASA-DA-CTR-1000)
Features
- Software IOT gateway for data connection of Festo components
- No intervention in the PLC program necessary
- Query data via proprietary protocols and provide data via MQTT protocol (mqtt-publish)
- Simple commissioning
- Flexible use: from edge computer to cloud thanks to Docker container technology
The AX Data Access software is delivered as an OCI container. A container runtime is therefore required as the execution environment. As a customer, you receive access to our container registry and can obtain the app via this registry. The process is described in the User Manual/Application Note.

The app runs on industrial PCs, virtual machines (VM) or other devices that meet the following hardware requirements:
- CPU: min. 1-Core, x86-64bit (Atom, Celeron or higher)
- HDD: 2 GB or more
- RAM: 1 GB or more
- 1x Ethernet Network interface
And the following software requirements:
- Installed Docker runtime (OCI container)
- Docker-Compose v2.0
- WebUI: optimized for Webkit-based browsers and Firefox
- UI optimized for: 1024x768 or higher
Festo AX Data Access queries data from Festo components. The list of supported components and modules is described above. The software must be able to communicate with the components on the network side (e.g. with regard to network segmentation).
The following protocols are used:
- HTTP
- MQTT
- UDP
- TCP
