Do away with separate flow control valves on the actuator and set tamper-proof travel speeds quickly and conveniently at the touch of a button. There is also an option to implement new motion sequences such as dynamic flow control setting.
Description

With the Motion App „Supply and exhaust air flow control“, you can digitally set the flow rate for the supply and exhaust air flow of a movement individually and independently of each other and so that it is tamper-proof. Both values can be cyclically changed during operation via the PLC, remotely and reproducibly, and can thus be optimally adapted to your requirements – no need for a technician on site!

Depending on the requirements of the downstream application, the supply and exhaust air setting can be throttled from 100% (max. flow rate) all the way down to 0% (recommended: >5%). This also enables the valve to be operated with a lower flow rate. You can assign this Motion App from the start package of the Festo Motion Terminal to any valve position, even to several ones at the same time.

Here, the Motion App replicates the function of a 4/4-way directional control valve. To avoid any dangerous cylinder movements, a pre-pressurization function is integrated (details: see Technical data).

Technical Details

-       Specifications in the Motion App and via the PLC: (throttle points <5% are not to be recommended):

  • Supply air throttle setting: 0 ... 100% (recommended values 5 ... 100%)
  • Exhaust air throttle setting: 0 … 100% (recommended values 5 ... 100%)
  • Increment: 0.01%
  • Control precision: ±3%

-       Note the max. impact energy of the cylinder. The user must make sure that this is not exceeded, for example by using additional dampeners.

-       Reproducibility:

  • Still needs to be inserted after testing.

-       Pre-pressurization function:

  • If, when starting the Motion App, the exhaust air pressure in the cylinder chambers is more than 50% below the supply pressure, both chambers will be pressurized in a controlled way before starting a requested movement. This prevents the pistons from retracting into a completely pre-exhausted end position.

-       Adaptation algorithm:

  • The tolerance of this motion task depends directly on the quality of the position controller for the booster stroke. This has a tolerance of ±3% (full scale). For small setpoint values in particular, this can lead to proportionally large relative deviations. To increase the repetition accuracy*, deviations of the throttle point should be taken into account for the setpoint value.
