Multifunctional system
Thepumpingstation is thefirston the
Islandwhichcouldbeconsidered
‘multifunctional’, as it incorporates three
vital elements. Firstly, rawwater (rainfall)
iscaughtand transferred intoLongue
Hougue reservoir for conversion into
drinkingwater.Secondly, streamwater is
used tomaintain thecleanlinessof the

bepumpedout tosea,whichmight
otherwiseoverload thecapacityof the
Barker’sQuarryReservoirand lead to
localisedflooding.
