Small space, safeoperation
Inaddition tomaking theswitch from
hydraulics topneumatics, Schörling
decided touse theeasy-to-install and
space savingdoublesub-baseVABP for
theveryfirst time. It replaces the
individual component solutions for
variousemergencystop functionsof
servopneumaticaxes thatwerepreviously
required. “Installedbetween thedrive

different switchoff functions tobe
realisedusingonesub-base: stopping,

describing thesafetyadvantageofVABP.

Co-operation fromdayone
The latestmodel of the tunnel cleaning
train fromSchörling incorporating the
innovativeservopneumatic solution from
Festo isalreadybeingused inBeijing’s
underground rail system. Itsnetwork is
around460km long,making it thebiggest
in theworld. ProjectManagerDaniel
Eberhardt recalls thedesignprocessas
beingparticularlychallenging. Theprocess
from initial discussionswith the
underground rail operators inChina to
completionof the tunnel cleaning train
took just sevenmonths. “For us, itwas
hugely important thatwehadapartner
likeFesto, onwhomwe could rely
completely,”saysDaniel Eberhardt. “The
changeover fromhydraulics to
servopneumaticswasa totallynew
departure forusandwehad toplaceour
trust in the innovativesolutionand
expertiseprovidedby Festo.”
Onlya fewmonthsafter both companies
met atHannoverMesse2012, aprototype
for theservopneumaticswasdeveloped.
Thiswas thenused toproduce thefinal
product. Service technicians from Festo
deliveredand commissioned theentire
servopneumatic system formovingand
controlling thesuctionnozzles. In
addition to fast deliveryof the
technological hardware, theworldwide
serviceprovidedby Festowasamajor
sellingpoint for Schörling. For
maintenanceandservicework, Schörling
canquicklyaccess the Festoexpertise
availableworldwide. Thisensuresa clean
environment for peopleandmachines in
the tunnelsof underground rail networks
all over theworld.
